Checklist

Wow!  There is so much to do!  This exchange is teaching me so very much about organization and planning!  The thought of being gone for a year is quite daunting, and thinking of all of the things that need to be taken care of is a bit overwhelming.   I'm thinking about... -UK visa -car insurance -driver's license -home insurance -bank accounts  -transferring money -cell phones -ways to stay in contact -home repairs -finding ways to ship items -places to visit -what I'll be teaching -what to pack!! There's so much to do and plan for!  I know that things will still through me for a loop, no matter the amount of planning I do, but I hope to be as on top of things as I can be.  I'm also very thankful for the communication and comradery from the other Fulbrighters as we share thoughts and tips to help each other through this checklist (and all the things I'm forgetting about!).

A Tale of Two Visits

Our days have been so very full and while I have so very much to share, for now, I will focus on two significant visits of our day.  First, was the visit to the US Embassy in Dakar. Ten years ago when I did a Fulbright exchange program in England, I was thrilled to go to the US Embassy in London. I had built it up in my mind that we would meet the Ambassador, have cocktails in his living room, and they would secretly have planned for the Queen to meet us. Shockingly, that is not at all what happened. Instead, we were ushered into an incredibly drab auditorium for a briefing, and then ushered out the back door. While an incredible honor to be invited into the embassy and get to speak to diplomats that work there, today’s visit was much closer to reality than my first envisionings. High Street

After school today, I popped up to the High Street, which is basically the main street of any town or village.  I went to the post office, the market and the bank before walking home, all in well under an hour.  I am certainly going to miss being able to walk from home to school, restaurants and shops!  What a treat!
