Hostess

I LOVE to play hostess! I rarely cook a proper meal.  Living on my own, going to lots of trouble just for myself is not really a lot of fun, so typically I do basic dinner of cereal, pasta or salad.  I do like to cook though, especially for others.

Tonight I had a few people over from work and had a blast playing hostess.  I haven't really hosted people yet in my new home, and it was so much fun to have people in the house.  I also thoroughly enjoyed the preparations for the day.  I put on some of my favorite Christmas movies while I prepared.  I watched Christmas Vacation, Elf, While You Were Sleeping and The Preacher's Wife while I cleaned, baked, and decorated.  I think one of the reasons I enjoy having people over is that it motivates me to get the house in tip-top shape.  I'd much prefer it stay that way, but we all know that that just doesn't happen.

I also enjoyed decorating the tree today.  Typically, my tree is up much earlier than this, but I had been so busy that I had not yet gotten the tree up.  It was odd decorating someone else's tree with someone else's ornaments (or bobbles), but in a way, it was also very freeing.  It looks beautiful and I'm so glad to have it up!  There's something about a Christmas tree that truly helps to spread the Christmas spirit!

The meal was a success and I got all that I needed to get done in time!  I enjoyed introducing my British friends to "Dirty Santa," which some of you may call "White Elephant."  They had never seen it before and got a huge hit out of stealing gifts from people.

I had a lovely time playing hostess this evening and enjoying the company of some new found, thoughtful, friends.  In a way, it made me feel even more at home here. I hope to find many more excuses to play hostess this year!
