Kate is pregnant!

If you're anything like me, the royals fascinate you.  What girl in my generation didn't dream of marrying Prince William or possibly still dreams of marrying Prince Harry?  I remember purchasing those People magazines with Prince William on them, pouring over pictures and stories, imagining what life might be like as a royal.

When Princess Diana died, I was leaving a friend's Bar Mitzvah when my parents told me they had just heard it on the radio.  It's a moment I'll always remember.  I watched, as we all did, as Harry and William walked solemnly behind their mother's casket, showing maturity beyond their years.

I could not have been happier about Kate and William's engagement.  From all I can tell, she's just about perfect!  I was so excited about their wedding, and even considered having an early morning party for it.  But then, tragedy struck.  Two days before their wedding, Alabama was devastated with one of the worst natural disasters to hit our state.  Dozens of tornados killed hundreds of Alabamians.  My family and I were very fortunate, but some of my friends were not so fortunate.  The only real damage I had was the loss of power for several days and the cost of the food that had been in my fridge.  My power was still out on Friday when the wedding took place and I was unable to watch it unfurl live.  Of course I saw photos and clips later, and while their wedding is still incredibly magical, it brings memories of darker moments as well.

Unless you've managed to avoid the news for the last two days, you probably already know that Kate is pregnant, and as you can tell by this news stand - it's a hot topic!  I could not be more thrilled and I am so very excited that I will be here this year as the nation watches anxiously, hoping and praying for a healthy baby.  A healthy heir to the throne.  Queen Elizabeth just recently changed the law stating that a male heir does not take precedence over a female.  So, whether this child is a boy or a girl, it will be the third in line for the crown.  I cannot imagine the pressure on Kate and William, and the doctors who are taking care of her right now.  I hope that everything goes well.

I'm excited for a new generation of royals to be fascinated with!  I wonder if they already have a nanny lined up...
