Wednesday Tidbits
I had a great day with my kids: giving them some tests back that they had truly earned some great scores on, helping them set up their own school email addresses, and reading a wonderful story with them.
I found out today that after Easter, I'll be getting a new student. I don't know a thing about her except for the fact that she's coming from Arizona and that is why she's joining my class! I'm thrilled to have her and I'm hoping that I can help her with a few key pointers such as those things you wear on your legs are "trousers" not "pants."
I had a few funny instances today, that I just had to share before they were forgotten.
As my year 6 English class was leaving today, one of my students stopped me with the question, "So, Miss Smith, I was wondering, since you're American..." (I always love questions that start this way!) "there's this American movie that I thought you might know." He asked if I knew of the film Forrest Gump. I told him that not only did I know of the film, but it took place in Alabama. He said, "That makes sense because I thought he sounded like you."
Awesome to know I sound like Forrest Gump....
This afternoon in PSHE, we were talking about the difference between boasting and being proud. I gave the kids some time to make up scenarios that involved kids boasting. They loved this as they could really let loose! One kid said, "Haha, I won the lottery! You're just a weiner!" He told me he used "weiner" because it was an American word.
We've been reading a beautiful story called Kensuke's Kingdom about a boy who finds himself on an island with an old man. On the island there are gibbon monkeys. I found a funny photo of a gibbon yawning and showed it to the kids. One of them yelled out, "That looks like my mom in the morning!"
I'm certain there is no job in the world nearly as entertaining as teaching children!
