Fun in the Snow

Snow does truly make the world more beautiful.  There is something calm and peaceful about the world being covered in white.  Perhaps it is that the world sort of stands still, and that suddenly differences don't stand out.  Perhaps it is that all other noises tend to fade away and the only sounds you hear are of snow falling and children laughing.

That is all very well and true, but let's face it, there is also something about snow that brings out the kid in each and everyone of us.  It has been snowing for nearly 24 hours, but we did have school this morning.  (I'm not honestly sure what the children learned from me before we let out at 12:30 because each time the wind blew a puff of white by the window, a squeal rang out through the classroom.)  There are several inches of snow on the ground, and unlike home, the snow even covers the road and the sidewalk, so much so, that I can't even tell where one ends and another one begins.

With all that snow, I couldn't help myself, I had to go out and play!  I searched the drawers and cupboards for odd bits that I could use for creating my own little snowman, suited up and headed outside.  The snow is so incredibly soft and dry that creating a snowman, even a miniature one was much more difficult than I had planned.  But nevertheless, I did succeed.

And you can't have a snow day without making a snow angel!  Nor can you truly celebrate the day until you have caught snowflakes on your tongue.  Since the air was thick with flakes, that was an easy thing to do!

It is fun to think that my friends back home in Alabama have also been experiencing some winter weather - amazing to think how half a world away we can still see a world of white!  Go out, enjoy, and act like a kid!

The doves are all bundled up on the porch, nibbling at the snow!  They sure blend in beautifully in this weather!
