Water Cycle
The world here is still completely white, so after another lovely walk through the woods and a visit with my feathered friends, I decided to get caught up on some marking.
Just before Christmas, in science, we studied the water cycle. We discussed how water has been around since the beginning of time and how it continuously goes around in a big circle. To give them a chance to let their creative juices flow, I prompted them to write a story as if they were a water particle, describing all they had seen through their lives. I gave them an example of a water droplet that had been drunk by a dinosaur, carried Christopher Columbus across the sea and was then used to help brush my teeth that day. The kids had a lot of fun with this and some chose some very interesting events and people from history to interact with the water droplet.
This example is my favorite, even though it may border on sac religious...
