Yesterday, I woke up to a missed call and a text that said "Call me :)" from my BFF. Thankfully the time difference was just enough so that when I was waking up early, she was up late and I got to talk to her. I could hear her smile through her greetings and especially when she squealed, "I'm engaged!"

Cheerleaders in the 5th Grade Play |
I could not be happier to hear my BFF (best friend forever) so very happy! Monica and I have been best friends since we met in 3rd grade at Highlands Day School. We went through elementary school, those awkward middle school years and high school together, never straying too far from one another. (In high school, I carried a yellow backpack and Monica carried a red one; sometimes we were called ketchup and mustard.) When it came time for college, I traveled a couple of hours away to Auburn while Monica stayed closer to home, but that just meant that we treasured our time together whether it be on the phone or on the weekends.

In Ireland |
Monica has known me two thirds of my life and knows just about as much about me as I do. We've been through so much together and helped each other through some difficult times. There were those middle school dances when you didn't know if the boy you liked was going to ask you to dance or not, then came growing up and finding our place in the wide world around us. We've celebrated together, we've traveled together, we've cried together and we have laughed so hard we've cried (even at something as ridiculous as a line from
A Bug's Life when one lightning bug said to the other, "Hey, turn your butt off.") It is memories like those that hold a special place in my heart, and memories like that that I hope to continue making together for many years to come.

At Monica's sister's wedding |
Although we don't talk nearly as often as we wish, when we do it is like we never missed a beat, conversations continue as if we had just been talking earlier in the day. I'm so incredibly thankful that I got to speak to her, and hear her voice on the day that she said yes to marry a truly great guy. I am so thankful that technology is what it is these days and that I got to hear the story of how he proposed just hours afterwards even though I'm an ocean away. I am so looking forward to celebrating with her when I return!

Celebrating our 10 Year High School Reunion |
So happy for Monica and Randy, and for her family, especially as they "celebrate life" the way her brother did, with her engagement, Sumita and Mike's first baby on the way... what a special year this is going to be! And I love seeing how genuinely happy you are for your dear friend... she is blessed to have you! I love seeing all the pics of you two from your childhood and now... beautiful young women inside and out! xoxo Anita
