Compliments

A little compliment makes us all feel good.  It is amazing what a few little words can do for a person!  Today, I asked my pupils to take some time and write a kind word about each of their peers.  I encouraged them not to use the word "nice" and to find unique things about their peers rather than general comments.  Tonight, I cut all of the papers up and will hand out all of the unanimous compliments that the pupils gave one another.

I was really impressed with some of the compliments.  Some of the kids really know one another and really appreciate each other's unique, fun qualities.  I think that reading through these compliments tomorrow will not only remind them of how wonderful they truly are, but remind them that their peers also value them.

I hope little compliments as simple as "niss hair" and "like his pencil case" will help to make someone's day!

Round Abouts, One Lane Roads, and Clutches - Oh My!

The day after I arrived here in Woburn Sands, I took a couple of short trips around the area at times when there were few cars around.  I did alright, but the thought of driving 5 hours north in just a few days time was quite daunting.  Still, my stubbornness won out on me knowing that if I didn't go ahead and do it, it would become even more difficult for me. Good-byes

Life is full of hellos and good-byes, and so to begin this new adventure, we decide that a Hello/Goodbye party would be just perfect for Kelly and I.  It was a wonderful way for me to say farewell to so many friends and loved ones and a way for Kelly to meet many new faces. The party made me realize even more so, what a life-swap this is.  Kelly and I will depend upon each other's friends and family members to help us find our way and help us make a home away from home.  I realized even more-so how incredibly blessed I am not only to have so many friends and family supporting me along my journey, but supporting Kelly through her journey as well.  They have welcomed her with open arms, just as I expected them to, and I know they will look out for her throughout the year.  For that, and for so many other things, I am incredibly thankful. Another Adventure!

I haven't posted on this blog in ten years.  It is beyond my comprehension that it has been ten years since my life-changing experience through the Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program.  Thankfully, I've had many travel opportunities since this time (they are over on this blog  if you want to see more), but as far as traveling professionally, well, I haven't done a lot of that in a while. I'm going to backtrack and give you a little more information about the Fulbright Program.  In the aftermath of WWII, Senator J. William Fulbright from Arkansas drafted legislation that would impact the world for years to come.  Since then, hundreds of thousands of people have participated and " are contributing to a more peaceful, equitable, prosperous, and just world" ( Program Overview ).
