Isle of White

As today was such a fantastically full day, I feel like the best way to tell all that we did, is just to list it all. We:
Ate a delicious full English breakfast
Went to a garlic farm
Argued with a peacock
Saw and touched Highland coos
Held and pet an owl
Went to a donkey sanctuary where we pet a donkey, a dog and a cat
Walked around an old town including the Old Smithy
Had tea and scones with clotted cream and jam in a building from the 16th century
Saw the famous coastal formation called "The Needles"
Went on a boat ride
Sat in the sun on the beach
Climbed the walls of an ancient castle
Enjoyed a delicious pub meal
Tried garlic fudge

What a great day in a truly beautiful area!

Another Adventure!

I haven't posted on this blog in ten years.  It is beyond my comprehension that it has been ten years since my life-changing experience through the Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program.  Thankfully, I've had many travel opportunities since this time (they are over on this blog  if you want to see more), but as far as traveling professionally, well, I haven't done a lot of that in a while. I'm going to backtrack and give you a little more information about the Fulbright Program.  In the aftermath of WWII, Senator J. Round Abouts, One Lane Roads, and Clutches - Oh My!

The day after I arrived here in Woburn Sands, I took a couple of short trips around the area at times when there were few cars around.  I did alright, but the thought of driving 5 hours north in just a few days time was quite daunting.  Still, my stubbornness won out on me knowing that if I didn't go ahead and do it, it would become even more difficult for me. On the Saturday after my arrival, my new found friend, and fellow Fulbrighter, JJ arrived.  I was a little nervous about venturing into the outskirts Milton Keynes, so I woke up early and went for a test run to make sure I'd know where to go and how to maneuver the round-abouts.  I did really well, and was so pleased with myself when I went back to pick JJ up that I wasn't paying careful attention and took the wrong exit on the round about on our way home.  The great thing was though, that I was able to follow signs to nearby places and make it home!   JJ and I set out on Sunday morning to Nottingham and She

Tis the season... to bake!

Even being thousands of miles from the food celebrations that will happen this week, I somehow got the "it's time to cook" bug this Thanksgiving week!  This past weekend I made about 4 recipes worth of sausage and cheese balls (which have been a huge hit here!) to put in the freezer for upcoming celebrations and to share with others.  I'm also baking some more cookies to share on Thanksgiving day, so I made the dough for that tonight to start the process.  And last, but certainly not least, I made my grandmother's sausage biscuits. They are nothing all too complicated, these pinwheel biscuits, but oh they are delicious.  I know they are tasty, but I also know that one of the main reasons I love them so much is because I always think of her when I make them.  I was only nine when she passed away, and so unfortunately many of the memories I have of her have faded.  I don't think the smell of those homemade biscuits wafting up the stairs is something I could re
