Dalek Invasion

If you don't know Doctor Who, don't worry, it is a British thing!  Doctor Who is a very popular science fiction TV show that has been around for decades.  Doctor Who travels through space and time to fight evil.  We've used Doctor Who as a basis in all sorts of projects to help the year 6 kids prepare for the recent SATS test.

The most evil of his enemies, the ones he fears the most, are the Daleks.  The Daleks are an evil alien race who are protected by small, tank-like structures, and as such they are nearly impossible to kill.  This week, the kids wrote public service announcements warning the public about what to do during a Dalek invasion.


These kids are so much fun and so creative!

Another Adventure!

I haven't posted on this blog in ten years.  It is beyond my comprehension that it has been ten years since my life-changing experience through the Fulbright Teacher Exchange Program.  Thankfully, I've had many travel opportunities since this time (they are over on this blog  if you want to see more), but as far as traveling professionally, well, I haven't done a lot of that in a while. Round Abouts, One Lane Roads, and Clutches - Oh My!

The day after I arrived here in Woburn Sands, I took a couple of short trips around the area at times when there were few cars around.  I did alright, but the thought of driving 5 hours north in just a few days time was quite daunting.  Still, my stubbornness won out on me knowing that if I didn't go ahead and do it, it would become even more difficult for me. On the Saturday after my arrival, my new found friend, and fellow Fulbrighter, JJ arrived.  I was a little nervous about venturing into the outskirts Milton Keynes, so I woke up early and went for a test run to make sure I'd know where to go and how to maneuver the round-abouts.  I did really well, and was so pleased with myself when I went back to pick JJ up that I wasn't paying careful attention and took the wrong exit on the round about on our way home.  The great thing was though, that I was able to follow signs to nearby places and make it home!   JJ and I set out on Sunday morning to Nottingham and She

Tis the season... to bake!

Even being thousands of miles from the food celebrations that will happen this week, I somehow got the "it's time to cook" bug this Thanksgiving week!  This past weekend I made about 4 recipes worth of sausage and cheese balls (which have been a huge hit here!) to put in the freezer for upcoming celebrations and to share with others.  I'm also baking some more cookies to share on Thanksgiving day, so I made the dough for that tonight to start the process.  And last, but certainly not least, I made my grandmother's sausage biscuits. They are nothing all too complicated, these pinwheel biscuits, but oh they are delicious.  I know they are tasty, but I also know that one of the main reasons I love them so much is because I always think of her when I make them.  I was only nine when she passed away, and so unfortunately many of the memories I have of her have faded.  I don't think the smell of those homemade biscuits wafting up the stairs is something I could re
