New Shoes
After school today, I went to run a few errands and popped into a shoe shop. It had been a rough day, I thought, so why not indulge myself and buy some fun shoes.
But on my way home, I thought about my day and realized that it really hadn't been all that rough of a day. In my first lesson, my kids worked brilliantly in their small groups and accomplished a lot. The second lesson of the day, I was just used for supporting a year 7 maths class and I had a great time working one on one or in small groups with kids I don't usually get to teach. They did very well on the concept and I loved being able to help with something I understood. I enjoyed my break time with my colleagues, shared a few laughs and partook in a couple of the white-chocolate-blueberry cookies I made last night. My maths lesson went really well as the kids put in a great deal of effort and used great problem solving skills to answer questions about what to do with remainders. ICT (technology) went alright, not perfect, but there is something about getting to sit in spiny chairs that just compromises a child's behavior. Lunch with my colleagues, like always, was lively, entertaining and relaxing. My English class worked well this afternoon planning out speeches they will make to the up and coming year 5s. It wasn't until the last lesson of the day that my day took a turn, but looking back, how can I complain? You know, I had a great day with just one lesson not going as it should.
Perhaps though, it was, as Paolo Nutini says in his song "New Shoes," it was in fact the new shoes that changed my perspective on the day.
"Hey, I put some new shoes on,
And suddenly everything is right,
I said, hey, I put some new shoes on and everybody's smiling!"
And suddenly everything is right,
I said, hey, I put some new shoes on and everybody's smiling!"
Either way, it gave me an excuse to buy some fun shoes and well, that's always a great day! :)
Glad your day wasn't as bad as it first felt... and cute shoes!
